Mini Cloud Sweater
One of the reasons I made Teddi in the first place was because I’d make a sweater for myself with special yarn and end up with scraps that felt too nice to toss—but not enough to make anything else. This was one of those times.
I’ve used blow yarn for my last three sweaters: my Cloud Sweater in Lang Cloud color 14, my Aros Sweater in multiple shades of Viking Garn Alpaca Bris, and most recently, my Seul Cardigan in Lang Cloud color 8. And after finishing the Seul Cardigan, I finally felt like I had enough scraps left to make Teddi a matching sweater.
The scraps I had from the Alpaca Bris sweater depended on how many stripes each color got. I was rationing lavender but had petrol to spare. For the Lang Cloud sweaters, I did a lot of intentional color pooling—switching skeins and making sure the colors I liked best ended up where I wanted. And because I’m a cool winter and wanted all the cool-toned colors on my sweater, the scraps I was left with were the muddier greens and the warm-toned browns/ It ended up working out though, because I think Teddi’s more of a soft autumn.
I used the same pattern as the original Candy Bear sweater but modified it for gauge and changed a couple details to make it more like the Cloud Sweater. Instead of a garter stitch border on the body and sleeves, I did a few rows of stockinette curl and a few rows of ribbing. I also replaced the folded rib turtleneck with a mini version of the Cloud Sweater’s stockinette curl funnel neck.
Despite how small this project was, I had what felt like a million ends to weave in. That was partly my own doing because I wanted the sweater to have the same kind of varied striped look as my own Cloud Sweater, but also inevitable when working with such small scraps. I did also end up needing to block it, but I was purposefully being a little stingy while making it—knowing I was running low on yarn and could just block it after.
I’ve been dying to have a matching sweater with Teddi, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. It’s nice that what I originally thought of as the “ugly scraps” now bring me so much joy to see as a mini version of my favorite sweater.
Here’s how it turned out:
