Granny Crochet Christmas Baubles (Color Combos)

I already mentioned this pattern in my Free Crochet Patterns I’ve Tried post, but here’s a closer look at the six color combos I kept for my own ornament collection:

Palette: dusty red, chartreuse, light pink, green, white

Palette: light pink, pink, baby blue, red

Palette: purple, white, light pink, aqua, royal blue

Palette: dusty red, light pink, baby blue, chartreuse, pale yellow

Palette: light chartreuse, dusty red, purple, mint, emerald green

Palette: forest green, chartreuse, dusty red, light pink, teal

I originally made these for a winter craft fair and, honestly, it ended up being one of the worst experiences of my life. My poor friend met me there early in the morning, and it was the beginning of December in freezing, pouring rain. There were two buildings for vendors—the main building and a barn in the back. We were in the barn, and we had to haul everything up a muddy hill to get there. And of course there were no signs letting anyone know vendors were even back there.

Halfway through the day, the heat shut off. I know this because we were right next to the radiator—I burned myself on it while setting up—and it went completely cold. Everyone in the barn was pissed, shivering, still wet from the rain, and basically forming a union. When we went to tell the staff (warm in the main building) that the heat wasn’t working, they just kept saying “hmm no, it’s on.” I think that’s the closest I’ve ever been to frostbite. I paid $50 to almost get frostbite, and then get gaslit about it.

Needless to say, I didn’t sell out. I did have a few sales, mostly from friends and family who still came out in that terrible weather to support me. As a consolation, I let my friend pick whatever she wanted from my booth, and I kept these beautiful ornaments as an heirloom set for my own tree.
