Pool Ball Sweater Update 2
Another week, another update on the pool ball sweater. Here’s everything I’ve completed since last week:
Finished the neckline: I completed the 2x2 rib neckline and folded it down. I think this came out just how I wanted—should hopefully be perfect once it’s blocked.
Another skein arrived: I realized I was going to need an extra skein to get the body to the length I wanted. The original site only had five in stock, so I ordered from another site and just hoped the color lots would match. Luckily, I think it’s pretty spot on.
Back to the body: I finished knitting the body to the length I wanted before starting the ribbing. I began the ribbing with the new skein and I’m now about halfway through. I already know the bind-off will take me several hours, but I love an Italian bind-off, so it’s worth it.
Redoing the sleeve cuffs: About halfway through the body ribbing (which I’m doing on the same needles as the rest of the body), I started staring at the sleeve cuffs a little too long. I’d made them on smaller needles to pull in more, but I actually like how the body ribbing looks better. It still pulls in a bit, but not too much, so I’m going to frog them and redo them. For now, they’re as-is with a lifeline in place for when I’m ready.
Started designing the graphic: The graphic aspect of the sweater hadn’t been designed yet, and it was starting to stress me out a little. I got some knitting graph paper from this site to match my gauge and used it to design one of the pool balls (lucky number 13) just to let my mind relax.
So, remember last week when I said this project was coming together quicker than if I were just following a pattern because I wasn’t having to redo anything? Yeah… I take it back. The sleeve cuffs were actually fine before, but now that I have an extra skein, I feel more inclined to make them truly perfect. Even with that little extra work and a day of Italian bind-off ahead of me, I’m still really excited about this sweater and how it’s turning out. I’m sure I’ll be back next week with another update—hopefully starting to put the graphics on the sweater!
