My Post-Christmas Knitting Plans

As excited as I am about the projects I have planned for Christmas presents, I can't help but think about what I want to make for myself once they're all done. This accidentally turned into a "PetiteKnit patterns I want to make" post—sue me, I love her stuff. Here are some things I plan to make for myself after Christmas:

Cloud Sweater (Lang Cloud—18)

Before I made my first Cloud Sweater, I honestly wasn't sure how I'd feel about the curled hems and the rolled funnel neckline. I wasn't sure if it would sit right on me, and I thought it might look a little unfinished—but it turns out that's actually what I love about it. It's become my most-worn sweater so far. I love the fit way more than I expected, and I just feel really cool in it.

My first one was in Lang Cloud color 14 (which I talked about here), and ever since I finished it I've been dying to make another one in color 18. I can completely picture myself wearing that deep purple/maroon colorway even more than the one I have now.

The only thing I’d change about the first one is the sleeve length—I wish I’d knit them a little longer, so I’ll keep that in mind for the next one.

I am planning to ask Santa for this yarn. (Tress... if you're reading this, 4 skeins please.)

Olga Jacket (Black & White)

I’ve worn this sweater in my head a bunch of times already. I know I want to do it in black and white—it feels like such an obvious staple for me. I can just see it being the perfect throw-on cardigan that fits right in with the rest of my wardrobe and matching perfectly with my black and white Nike Dunks that I wear every day.

I’m thinking I’ll use Cascade 220 Merino for it. I really liked working with it for my Stripes & Solids sweater, and it feels really nice on my skin. It has the exact drape I’d want for a cardigan—the kind of fabric you automatically tuck around yourself when you’re cold.

Storm Sweater (Probably Light Gray)

This just feels like it would be the perfect hang-out sweater. Not exactly a cable knit, but it gives that same cozy, textured vibe just from knits and purls. I really love the sample so I think I’ll end up doing something similar.

Sophie Hood (Viking Garn Alpaca Bris—"Coke")

The Sophie Hood (and the Sophie Scarf) feel so iconic in the knitting community, and I’ve wanted to make one for a while. My winter coat doesn’t have a hood, which is fine, but there are plenty of days where a beanie just isn’t enough. I feel like this would be perfect for those days—warm around my head and neck without the bulk of a scarf.

I saw someone on Ravelry make theirs in Drops Air, and that’s what made me want to use a fuzzy alpaca blow yarn for mine—it’s incredibly warm, lightweight, and has that slightly luxurious feel that fits a piece like this.

The color kind of decided itself. I had one skein of Viking Garn Alpaca Bris left over from my Aros Sweater in the shade “Coke,” which is a charcoal. My coat and beanie are black, so I think charcoal will go with them nicely without everything blending together.

And since I needed to order more yarn for my brother’s sweater anyway, I figured I might as well throw a couple extra skeins of Alpaca Bris in the cart so I’d have enough for this too.

Speaking of my brother's sweater... here's how that's coming along:

Just finished the sleeves!
